Species richness [Diversity]

Variance of species richness for all plant species on 100 m² plots over the years. (ID=24)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the inter-annual variation of the species richness for all plant species on 4 plots of 100 m² in size at the auxiliary biodiversity observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure). Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.
Variance of species richness for perennial plant species (herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) on 100 m² plots over the years. (ID=25)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the inter-annual variation of the species richness for perennial plant species (herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) on 4 plots of 100 m² in size at the biodiversity observatory auxiliary S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure). Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.

Shannon diversity [Diversity]

Variance of Shannon diversity index for perennial species (herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) on 100 m² plots over the years. (ID=21)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the inter-annual variation of the Shannon diversity index for perennial species (herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) on 4 plots of 100 m² in size at the auxiliary biodiversity observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (exclosure). Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.
Variance of Shannon diversity index for all plant species on 100 m² plots over the years. (ID=45)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the inter-annual variation of the Shannon diversity index for all plant species on 4 plots of 100 m² in size at the auxiliary biodiversity observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure). Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.

Pielou's evenness [Diversity]

Variance of Pielou's Evenness index for all species on 100 m² plots over the years. (ID=22)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the inter-annual variation of the Pielou's Evenness index for all vascular species on 4 plots of 100 m² in size at the auxiliary biodiversity observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (exclosure). Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.
Variance of Pielou's Evenness index for perennial species (herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) on 100 m² plots over the years. (ID=23)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the inter-annual variation of the Pielou's Evenness index for perennial species (herbs, grasses, shrubs and trees) on 4 plots of 100 m² in size at the auxiliary biodiversity observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure). Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.

Rainfall [Climate]

Total rainfall per year for the auxiliary observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure). (ID=26)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Total rainfall [mm] per year for the auxiliary observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure) as measured by the SASSCAL Weather Station next to the observatory.
Variance of monthly rainfall per year. (ID=69)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
Boxplot shows the variance of monthly rainfall per year for the auxiliary observatory S23 Soebatsfontein (enclosure). Data was provided by the SASSCAL Weather Station at the observatory. Horizontal bold line = median, box = lower and upper quartile, whiskers = minimum and maximum.

SPEI [Climate]

Standardised Precipitation-Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) for a 12-months interval. (ID=52)
(created by Ute Schmiedel)
The SPEI index is a standardised monthly climatic balance computed as the difference between the cumulative precipitation and the potential evapotranspiration (Vicente-Serrano et al. 2010). For this presentation the monthly SPEI values have been accumulated at 12 months. Red bars indicate drought, blue bars humid conditions.
